Roof Top Units
Problem:
A typical Roof Top Unit generates a lot of noise in its fans, condensers, heat sources, compressors, and other smaller elements, and the majority of this noise is directed down the supply and return ductwork for the RTU. Due to the fact that RTUs are typically situated close to the area being conditioned, the duct run alone often does not serve to attenuate the noise to comfortable levels and there are high amounts of breakout noise. An additional problem is that there is usually not even enough duct run to allow for a straight silencer since the airflow doesn't have the duct length to establish laminar flow before the silencer.
Solution:

RINK Elbow Silencers can be inserted into the duct system to reduce the RTU noise level while taking up considerably less space than either the equivalent duct run or straight silencer. A common problem with straight duct attenuation is that it does not do much for the low frequency end of the sound spectrum. RINK silencers can attenuate this sound and reduce the risk of low frequency noise in a space.

By using a silencer with HTL (high transmission loss) casing, we can reduce the amount of breakout noise (through the silencer's outer shell) that travels into the space. Elbow silencers are ideal here because once the sound has been attenuated in the elbow silencer, the sound levels are no longer high enough to worry about breakout noise in the duct. A standard silencer would have to be placed so far away from the RTU (in order to get laminar flow) that the areas directly below the unit would experience high levels of breakout noise.
